I was talking on the phone to one of my friends, explaining to her where to look in the sky for venus. I was looking out of a full opening window, leaning right out, looking towards venus, from a third floor of a factory building (light pollution was very low as I'm in a dark area of an industrial estate, and all lights were dim and around 8 feet below me). The sky was very clear, and still light enough to see anything such as birds, aircraft etc.
Suddenly, directly to the lower right of venus' position (from where I was looking), a very bright light just appeared in the sky from nowhere. Of course I exclaimed 'f***, no way!' as it moved slowly across the sky northwards, and as quick as it appeared, it just vanished (visable for around 2-4 seconds).
My friend asked what, I told her, with nerves and excitement that I think I just saw a ufo. None the least she didn't believe me as I always joke about me coming from another planet and will return home soon as I remember where I parked my ufo.
I am absolutely positive what I saw wasn't;
a chinese lantern
a bird
a jet
The light itself was as intense as that of venus currently.
Sizewise, I would have to say it looked very similar to the size of venus also. Though it seemed much closer.
I heard no sound.
the wind was very light and blowing in completely the opposite direction, to that of the objects projectionary.
I work through the whole night and often look to the skies throughout my shifts.
Hopefully I'm not the only one that saw this. Only a few days ago I was recording venus from the exact same location, I only wish I was recording tonight instead.
Anyone able to explain what I saw please?

It could have been an iridium flash or possibly a bright satellite - you can check yourself at www.heavens-above.com

Hi I saw two bright lights with a friend, I'm very familiar with planets satellites etc.
one light was around midnight, it looked like a helicopter approaching with a bright landing light, however it had no sound when it approached from the south and when nearly over head it veered to the east.. brighter than a satellite, it did not fade when it changed direction like a helicopter did.. and satellites don't change direction.. it was too bright for a Chinese lantern we observed it for around one minute.... The next light was around 2.15 moving west to east it was appx double the intensity of Venus currently.. we saw it for approx 10-20 seconds. both observed in North Norfolk early hours of Fri 25th June 2010. Hi and welcome to the forum, thank you for posting up maybe you could check with the CAA to see if anything was in the airspace at around that time. Also with your local police force to see if anyone else had reported anything unusual around the the time you witnessed the object. Also if you have time would you be able to sign my petition to the government on the closure of our ufo desk.http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/RighttoReport/

Thanks for the heavens above link, at a glance nothing seems to match what I saw. I will return to the same window on thursday to more accurately guess (I'm I right in thinking a protractor will do for this?) the angle of what I saw to see if anything comes close to explaining it.
As for checking with the police, thats something Id rather not do. I'd either be laughed at, be given some lie, or sent to the nuthouse. For some reason, I just don't trust government authorities.

That would not be the case, another modern myth on asking the authorities about ufo's is being sent to the nut house, if that were the case i would have been in there a long time ago. Neither would you be laughed at, you may get lied to of course but thats what were trying to fight.

Gary Heseltine who runs PRUFOS.. is a CID officer... PRUFOS is the police data base for reporting ufos.... It's all good... |
